NGV Print Kitchen

2023 | National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne

The Print Kitchen is the brain child of printmaker and all-round creative genius, Artek from Huge Mumma Spice Merchant. It was a free event during the 4 day Melbourne Art Book Fair during Melbourne Design Week at the National Gallery of Victoria.

The Print Kitchen was a purpose-built diner-themed printmaking production. People sat around the outside and etched onto a copper plate. Once finished, they rang the bell & handed it to one of the chef’s in the kitchen . It was then inked, placed through the press and then packaged up in a custom Print Kitchen pizza box ready for take-away - all within 30 minutes! The Print Kitchen pumped out over 600 prints.

CAYA had the greatest pleasure working in the Print Kitchen during the fair. Artek’s brilliant capacity to turn an idea into reality is truly inspiring and we can’t wait for what’s next to come with Huge Mumma Spice Merchant.

Huge Mumma Spice Merchant is a print studio/art lab/good-things-foundry run by Artek Halpern-Laurence in Warrandyte on Wurundjeri country. The studio hosts workshops and collaborations which focus on printmaking and its ability to create connection between people by making art more sharable and accessible as well as demystifying print processes.
