graphic scores

Decibels Youth Music Centre is the youth music and arts hub of Darebin City Council and is a place for people aged 13 to 25 to make & record music, learn skills and connect with people who love music and the arts.

‘Graphic Scores’ was a multi-media session we facilitated in collaboration with Decibels Youth Music Centre in Reservoir where we explored the connection between visual art and music, focusing on creative ways to support creative blocks. A ‘Graphic Score’ is the representation of music through the use of visual symbols outside the realm of traditional music notation.

The session focused on exploring graphic scores in two ways:

1. We individually envisioned and created our own graphic scores in response to different pieces of music.

2. We then collaboratively discussed how to combine our individual scores to produce one new piece of music we all played together.
